Your ears can enhance your look – or be an unpleasant distraction that you hide from view. Many people who have had piercings are left with stretched earlobes, or have torn earring holes that need to be repaired. Dr. Michael Morrissette is a highly-skilled cosmetic surgeon in Ventura that can restore your earlobes to appear healthy, natural, and perfectly shaped.

About the Earlobe Repair Procedure

The procedure itself is fairly simple, but to achieve a natural ear appearance, it is critical that it is performed with skill and attention to detail. Dr. Morrissette is recognized for the quality of his work in facial cosmetic surgery, and his practice is focused strictly upon facial surgeries. He is often called upon to speak on advanced facial cosmetic surgery procedures, and travels nationally and internationally to present information to other professionals in his field. You can be fully confident in his artistic eye, and the care and attention to detail with which every facial procedure is performed, including earlobe repair.

The repair is performed with local anesthetic, and requires about fifteen minutes to an hour, depending upon the degree of the problem. The ear area is numbed, and the elongated hole removed and the earlobe reshaped and restored, and then sutured (stitched).

It is always important to ensure the procedure is performed by a facial cosmetic surgeon with an eye for beauty, harmony, and balance so the result appears natural, and an enhancement to your other features once healed.

Torn Earlobes

Many people are left with earlobes that appear unsightly due to wearing heavy earrings that stretched the piercing, or completely split the lobe when the earring was caught or pulled. This problem can be resolved with a simple earlobe repair surgery performed as an outpatient procedure in our comfortable, state-of-the-art office in Ventura.

Repairing Gauged Piercings

Some patients chose to create large gauged ear piercings in the past, and now regret the decision, as they are older and feel that the look is no longer appropriate or attractive. These large ear holes can be repaired, and can restore your ears to a natural appearance free from the large, unsightly hole. While removing the gauges can help to shrink the hole, in some cases it is impossible to fully resolve without a minor surgical procedure. The large hole can be corrected, and the natural shape of the lobe restored with the help of Dr. Michael Morrissette.

Ripped Earlobe Repair in Santa Barbara

It is not uncommon for a parent to have a curious baby grab and pull an earring, damaging the earlobe. Ripped earlobes can also come about due to an earring being caught on a piece of clothing. A torn earlobe is not only unsightly and painful – the open laceration can be prone to infection. It is advised that you schedule an immediate appointment at our clinic if your earlobe has been ripped or torn.

Aging Earlobes

As we age, the earlobes can begin to sag and appear unsightly. The cartilage continues to grow throughout your life, and the ear structure can begin to appear unattractive, elongated due to the pull of gravity, leaving them looking much larger than they did in your earlier years. This condition can be remedied with a procedure called otoplasty, or ear lift surgery. Excess skin and cartilage can be removed, the ear reshaped, and your ears left looking fresh and youthful, smaller, and more visually appealing in structure and shape.

Healing from Earlobe Repair

After the procedure, it is common to experience mild swelling or bruising, or numbness. These side effects quickly diminish, and any discomfort is easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers, or need no medication at all. You will be applying antibiotic ointment to the treated earlobe several times a day to ward off infection. Avoid strenuous activity such as vigorous exercise for two weeks after earlobe repair surgery to help limit swelling. Most patients can return to work the same day as earlobe repair surgery, or the following day. After the repaired earlobe has healed, the stitches will be removed, usually about a week to ten days following this minor, in-office surgical repair.

In some cases, dissolvable sutures may have been used and will not require removal. It is important to treat the area to avoid the development of a visible scar, and Dr. Morrissette will guide you through this process, which may include application of a scar gel, and gentle massaging of the area. Avoid exposing your repaired earlobes to the sun’s rays, with protective sunscreen.

We will provide you with aftercare instructions and one-on-one personal guidance, so your procedure gives you a natural look that enhances your other facial features, rather than distracting from them.
