Lip Lift

Lip Lift Santa Barbara is one of the hottest and most requested treatment options in the ever changing field of facial cosmetic surgery. The most common lip procedure is lip augmentation with dermal fillers, however, we sometimes perform a little known procedure called a "lip lift".

What is a lip lift in Santa Barbara?

A lip lift is a procedure that can shorten the elongated lip and roll out the “red” border to provide more lip exposure, and may also improve the smile line. The surgery to increase lip prominence is accomplished by removing a small amount of skin and muscle below the nose in the nasal crease. This well-hidden incision will allow the lip to roll upward and forward. This will provide a more youthful, shorter lip with a greater amount of “red” lip exposure. Thus achieving natural and youthful looking results from our Santa Barbara lip lift.

Who is a candidate for lip lift?

Some patients present with elongated, lengthened, upper lips due to heredity or aging. The aging lip becomes elongated, sustains volume loss, and loses its curves. This type of lip does not improve in appearance with dermal fillers.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure can be performed with local anesthesia or IV sedation if the patient wishes and takes about 30 minutes. The skin is marked following the natural curvature of the nose. A 4-5mm curved section of skin is removed along with some muscle. The incision is closed with very fine sutures and patients are advised to refrain from pursing their lips for several days.

How is the recovery?

There is swelling beneath the nose for several days so a few days off from work may be necessary. The surgical site is usually healed in about 7-10 days and at 30 days the incision is usually hardly perceptible. In few cases, a laser can be used to any scar that is still visible.

The benefits of the lip lift include a shortening of the upper lip to provide more pout and enhance aesthetics. The shortened lip will also increase the amount of upper tooth show consistent with a more youthful lip.

PRACTICE POLICY UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19

The COVID-19 epidemic has created unprecedented circumstances for our community. Our practice has been paying close attention to the guidelines put in place by the government and the CDC and we want to reassure you that, as always, your health and well-being is our primary concern.

With this in mind, we are offering virtual consultations to patients via face time, however face-to-face in office consultation are still available. To schedule a virtual consultation or in office consultation call our office at (805)-214-4034.

Please know that we are constantly updating our services and staffing according to the local and national recommendations and doing our part to make sure that you are protected.

  • We continue to exercise all the latest recommendations that are handed down by the CDC. Our preventative measures include:
  • Fully training all staff members to understand the disease process and its modes of transmission.
  • Asking all staff, vendors and ancillary personnel to refrain from coming to the office if they have any signs or symptoms of a cold or an upper respiratory tract infection.
  • Asking every patient to refrain from coming to the office if they have any symptoms and inquiring about any pertinent travel history.
  • Hand-washing, as this continues to be the most important mode of prevention. Although it is something that we have always constantly done, we are now doing so with heightened vigilance and attention.
  • Constantly sanitizing all surfaces (which we have always done as an accredited facility). However, we have now increased this routine and are wiping down all surfaces, desks, door handles, keyboards and restroom facilities multiple times each day.

Although Covid-19 is a serious issue, we strongly believe that it will pass and hopefully make our infrastructure and our ability to deal with pandemics in this country even better than it currently is. We are closely monitoring this situation on a real-time basis and will update our practice’s guidelines as needed to protect our patients.
