A common complaint among patients is fat underneath their chin, or a “double chin”. Weight fluctuations, health issues, and natural aging can all contribute to this problem. If you do not look as healthy and youthful as you did in the past because of excess fat in the chin area, Kybella in Santa Barbara is a new, innovative product that could be the answer for you. Kybella treatments are now available for Ventura, Santa Barbara, & Oxnard residents by Dr. Morrissette, a leading facial cosmetic surgeon.

What Is Kybella?

Kybella is a nonhuman and nonanimal formulation of deoxycholic acid. Its purpose is to treat a double chin. The product is the same as the natural deoxycholic acid that the body produces.

When deoxycholic acid is naturally produced, its properties assist the body in absorbing fat. When Kybella is injected, it will destroy cell membranes and fat cells. While there may be temporary bruising or swelling after a treatment, there should not be any lasting effects to the areas around the chin.

It is essential for the product to be used correctly. It cannot safely be used on any other part of the body, as there has not been adequate research for areas other than the chin. It must only be administered by a medical professional who is fully trained in how to correctly use the product, as is Dr. Morrissette. When it is used properly, it is both effective and safe. It was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for double chin or chin fat. Treatments can take between two and six months of monthly sessions. Each session will last approximately 30 minutes. Although an injection may be uncomfortable, a person should not expect treatments to be a painful experience.

A Slimmer, More Youthful Facial Profile

Has your face lost its youthful appeal, due to unsightly chin fat? This excess fat, termed “submental fullness” can be the result of weight gain, genetic factors, or aging. Unfortunately, the fat below the chin can leave your face looking saggy, older, heavier, and tired, even if you eat a healthy diet and consistently exercise. Kybella works to improve your profile in cases of a moderate or severe double chin, and to get rid of those fatty deposits that have appeared under the chin area. There are surgical solutions for this issue, but many patients choose to avoid surgery and get the problem resolved with Kybella treatments.

What to Expect with a Kybella Treatment

Every person is different in the amount of fat that has been deposited under the chin, and the number of treatments can vary. You may require several treatments, each a month apart. More than half of patients will require six total treatments to achieve the result they want.

Each treatment involves multiple small injections of the product into the area, which takes about 15 to 30 minutes in total. Most patients do not find the injections unduly painful, as the area to be treated has been numbed.

After the procedure is completed, you may experience a stinging sensation, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication. An ice pack is also helpful. Some swelling is normal, and is often more severe on the second day. The numbness will diminish as the days pass, and any bruising at the injection sites will fade. As the product works, the fat under the chin begins to be reabsorbed by the body. Kybella essentially melts the fat away by disrupting the membranes around the fat cell, releasing the cell contents, where it is then naturally metabolized by the body.

When Will I See My Results?

Kybella is made with deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule that assists in fat breakdown. Once injected, Kybella works gradually, metabolizing and removing the fat cells in an organic fashion. Patients typically see their changes within 4-6 weeks after their session. The total number of sessions needed to achieve the ideal profile is different for each patient, so it’s important to have realistic expectations based on your private consultation. Once Kybella has taken effect, you will see a slimmer, more sculpted upper neck and a more youthful, attractive appearance overall. Results with Kybella are sustainable and long-lasting.

Goodbye, Double Chin.

Are you tired of looking in the mirror and seeing excess fat under your chin? Have you developed a double chin? Many people, men and women alike, are more disturbed by the look of these fat deposits than about the appearance of wrinkles. In fact, resolving chin fat or a double chin is one of the most effective ways to restore the trimmer facial profile of youth. We invite you to make an appointment at our Ventura County office in Oxnard, so we can evaluate the situation and advise you about getting Kybella treatments.

Kybella Side Effects

There can be side effects and potential complications from any product injected for beauty enhancement. This new product is not an exception. For the safest experience and the best results, ask your doctor’s advice before making a decision. Make sure he is aware of your health history.

Kybella side effects can range from minor to severe. On the relatively minor side, you may experience swelling at the injection site, bruising, numbness, or redness of the skin. More serious complications may include blood accumulating in your tissues, difficulty swallowing, weakness in your facial muscles, or nerve injury to your jaw. The possibility of side effects is one reason to not make this decision lightly. If your doctor advises you to not have the treatment, you should listen to his advice. If your doctor approves of the treatment, be alert to any complications and contact your doctor if they do occur.

Is Kybella Right For You?

The best way to make your decision is by having a talk with your doctor. If Dr. Morrissette feels it is right for you, he will go over the details of the procedure with you and we can schedule your treatment. When used correctly, it is safe for most healthy adults. The treatments are not appropriate for children or teenagers. Individuals who are obese are less likely to achieve satisfactory results. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have the injections. If you have any serious health or medical conditions, or take medications, you should not make an appointment for treatments without your physician’s approval.
