Facial Scar Treatment

View Gallery >>

Are you troubled by visible facial scars? Our scar treatment processes can be effective in restoring a smoother, more attractive look to your face. Many people have suffered bouts of acne in their adolescent and young adult lives, and their faces are left with visible scarring. Others may have scars associated with injuries. When these scars are visible on the face, it can lead to embarrassment or reduced self-esteem. It should be noted that scarring is permanent, and although the appearance can be improved, expectations should be realistic.

Addressing Facial Scars Effectively: The Processes

Scar treatments may not completely resolve the scar, but can reduce the visibility and discoloration of the scarred area. Treatments such as laser, chemical peels, the addition of fillers, along with a technique called subcision are available at our Practice. Your facial condition must be fully evaluated to determine which treatments will bring about the best change in your case.

Why do scars occur?

Facial scars are the result of a natural body response to trauma. People vary in the level of inflammation that is activated by the body. While some people rarely or minimally scar, others have a more severe inflammatory response, and are much more likely to be left with an unsightly facial scar after the face has suffered some type of trauma. We will evaluate your condition and advise you about what we can do to minimize the appearance of your facial scars.

It may be possible to perform several types of treatments to reduce the visible appearance of scars. Some of the issues that will affect a person's ability to reduce the appearance of scars include the following:

  • Skin type
  • Skin color
  • Ethnicity
  • Age
  • Individual ability to heal

How Your Facial Surgeon Can Help You With Visible Scars

Reducing the visible appearance of facial scars can be exceptionally important for an overall feeling of confidence. If you are troubled by the appearance of scars, and seeking treatment to make them less visible, we urge you to schedule a consultation to see us. Dr. Morrissette and his entire medical team focuses strictly upon facial enhancements. The treatment that will help reduce the appearance of scars will be determined only on an individual basis.

Laser Resurfacing: Scar Treatments

Rough areas of the facial skin that are elevated can be resurfaced to create a smoother look through laser resurfacing. Creating a smoother look to the skin reduces the visible appearance of the scarred area. Depending upon the type of scar you have, and your skin type, we may advise laser skin resurfacing for lessening the appearance of facial scars.

Subcision: Scar Treatments

Subcision remains a great technique for improving acne scars. Subcision involves treating the acne scar with a fine needle to lift the pulled down scar off the lower surface. This needling technique stimulates new collagen to grow into the facial divot. CO2 fractional resurfacing puts little tiny microscopic holes into the scar, stimulating collagen to grow into the scar, much like aerating your lawn stimulates the grass to grow thicker. These treatments have an overall effect of helping to fill in the scar, making it less noticeable, and smoothing the skin. In cases of severe scarring, we combine subcision and C02 laser resurfacing.

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19 View Update Virtual Consultation

The COVID-19 epidemic has created unprecedented circumstances for our community. Our practice has been paying close attention to the guidelines put in place by the government and the CDC and we want to reassure you that, as always, your health and well-being is our primary concern.

With this in mind, we are offering virtual consultations to patients via face time, however face-to-face in office consultation are still available. To schedule a virtual consultation or in office consultation call our office at (805)-214-4034.

Please know that we are constantly updating our services and staffing according to the local and national recommendations and doing our part to make sure that you are protected.

  • We continue to exercise all the latest recommendations that are handed down by the CDC. Our preventative measures include:
  • Fully training all staff members to understand the disease process and its modes of transmission.
  • Asking all staff, vendors and ancillary personnel to refrain from coming to the office if they have any signs or symptoms of a cold or an upper respiratory tract infection.
  • Asking every patient to refrain from coming to the office if they have any symptoms and inquiring about any pertinent travel history.
  • Hand-washing, as this continues to be the most important mode of prevention. Although it is something that we have always constantly done, we are now doing so with heightened vigilance and attention.
  • Constantly sanitizing all surfaces (which we have always done as an accredited facility). However, we have now increased this routine and are wiping down all surfaces, desks, door handles, keyboards and restroom facilities multiple times each day.

Although Covid-19 is a serious issue, we strongly believe that it will pass and hopefully make our infrastructure and our ability to deal with pandemics in this country even better than it currently is. We are closely monitoring this situation on a real-time basis and will update our practice’s guidelines as needed to protect our patients.
