What Is the Process for BOTOX Treatments?
Before you arrive at our office for your first visit, take a minute to download and complete our new patient forms and save time in the check-in
process. In your initial free patient consultation in Ventura, CA, Dr. Morrissette will discuss with you your concerns and available treatment options.
The doctor will evaluate your medical history, along with the facial imperfections and concerns you would like to address. If the doctor recommends and
you elect to receive our cosmetic Oxnard & Ventura BOTOX treatments, an appointment will be scheduled for your first treatment. In many cases, the treatment can be completed
on the same day as the initial consultation.
When you receive your injections, we will cleanse the area. We may use numbing cream or ice to ensure that you are comfortable during the process, although BOTOX needles are very short and thin and create minimal pain. We will ask you to contract your facial muscles, so the exact location for the treatment can be determined. Next, we will inject BOTOX into the underlying muscle in an almost painless procedure, completed in a matter of minutes. A number of injections may be needed to achieve desired results.
After the injections are completed, we will provide you with special instructions on what to expect and what to avoid for better results from your treatment. You can expect very slight pain, minimal redness and bleeding, and slight swelling for a brief time after the procedure.
We will advise you to avoid lying flat, rubbing your face, or exercising for at least 4 hours after the treatment, to avoid the rare possibility of any shift in the location of the BOTOX. Otherwise, we will encourage you to resume normal activity immediately after this non-invasive, non-surgical procedure.
Answers to Common Questions About BOTOX
Most people have heard of BOTOX – it was FDA approved in 2002, and has become one of the most popular of all facial treatments – and for good reason. Many people count on their BOTOX treatments to keep the face free from lines and creases, and ward off wrinkles and facial creases. We have gathered together some of the most common questions our patients ask us. We invite you to set an appointment for a consultation at our Ventura office, and find out more.
Will BOTOX help prevent wrinkles?
Yes. This product works to slow the action of the facial muscles treated. These tiny muscles contract hundreds of times a day, and eventually the facial skin develops a wrinkle, which eventually can turn into a crease. Keep these muscles from constantly contracting makes it possible to stave off the appearance of wrinkles.
I have heard that BOTOX makes your face appear “frozen.” Is that true?
If the product is incorrectly applied, that effect could occur. That is why it is so critical that you only receive these treatments from a highly-qualified cosmetic surgeon. A full evaluation of the muscle structure in your face is necessary to create a natural, fresher, appearance that does not look frozen. Dr. Morrissette is a leader in the field of facial cosmetic surgery, and has an extensive background in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He focuses on patient safety, and using the most innovative medical procedures and techniques, including BOTOX, to create a natural, more youthful facial appearance.
Is getting BOTOX painful?
The procedure is typically slightly painful unless the area is pre-treated with a topical anesthetic, or ice can be used to assist in numbing the area so the sensation of the “pinch” of an injection is reduced.
At what age should you start your BOTOX treatments?
Once you see the beginning of the appearance of wrinkles in those fine lines, it is the right time to start your treatments. This could occur as early as the mid-twenties, or earlier for some who have a genetic factor and a propensity for the skin to wrinkle at an early age. As this product has been on the market for many years, there are thousands of patients who have had consistent treatments for many years – and are enjoying the fact that they have fewer wrinkles and creases than others their age.
How long does it take to get BOTOX?
This is a fast procedure, requiring only about 10 to 20 minutes to complete. Prior to your treatment, your face, skin, and underlying facial muscle structure must be evaluated so that the proper injection sites are selected.
How long will my BOTOX treatment last?
The treatment is generally effective for about three to four months. Every person is different, and some may not need another treatment for a longer or shorter time.
Can BOTOX get rid of crow’s feet?
The product was FDA-approved for the treatment of crow’s feet (canthal lines) in 2013. It was already approved for the temporary treatment of frown lines. It is also approved for the temporary improvement of glabellar lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows, or “frown lines.”)
Is BOTOX the same as botulism?
Although BOTOX is related to the same toxin, when used in tiny doses, it is extremely effective in treating certain facial flaws. It functions to block certain nerves or by weakening specific muscles. The cosmetic is highly purified protein derived from this toxin. The doses used in cosmetic treatments are extremely small, and FDA approval means that when used correctly, the product is safe for use on consumers. However, it is important that the medical professional administering BOTOX is highly educated, and has a full understanding of facial muscles and nerves.
What is the average cost of BOTOX?
Per Realself, the average cost of BOTOX is $550.
